The Victory of Moses and the Destruction of Pharaoh on Ashura Day

When Egyptians grew fanatical about their kufr. Their hostility and denial of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ increasingly fueled the desire to kill and oppress the messenger of Allah and the people who followed him. They followed their oppressive king, Pharaoh. It was then that God established His judgment to destroy all of them. They have witnessed signs and events that are beyond reason. Events that come out of the natural process. And makes sense wonder. But they still don't want to stop, don't want to understand, and don't want to go back to God ﷻ.

With his power and arbitrariness, Pharaoh managed to pressure his people to deny the truth that was brought by Prophet Moses.

"So no one believed in Moses, but the young men of his people (Moses) were in a state of fear that Pharaoh and the leaders of his people would torture them. Indeed, Pharaoh acted harshly on the earth. And indeed he is among those who transgress the limits. "(QS: Jonah | Verse: 83).

At its peak, Pharaoh claimed to be the God entitled to be worshiped. When tyranny has peaked, that's when God's help comes. Prophet Moses gathered his followers. Advise them, strengthen their hearts, and give direction to them.

Moses said: "O my people, if you believe in Allah, then trust Him alone, if you are truly a surrender." (QS: Jonah | Verse: 84).

They answered the words of the Prophet Moses with answers that calmed him.

Then they said: "To Allah, we have confidence! Our Lord; do not make us the target of slander for the "wrongdoers". (QS: Jonah | Verse: 85).

Prophet Moses ordered them to put their trust in Allah alone. Ask for help and hope for Him. And Allah also gave a way out for all of them. Then the Prophet Moses gave the good news from God to his people,

And We revealed to Moses and his brother: "Take two of you houses in Egypt for a place to live for your people and make your houses your place of prayer and establish your worship and delight the believers." (QS: Jonah | Verse: 87).

Allah ukan revealed to the Prophet Moses and his brother Harun –‘alaihimassalam- that he and his people would build a different house from the houses of the Egyptians in general. The reason, when the order to leave Egypt came, they were easier to tell one another. Pay attention! In addition to God's help in the form of miracles, Moses also took real efforts like this.

Then comes the command of Allah ﷻ,

"And make your houses your place of prayer and establish your prayers and cheer up those who believe." (QS: Jonah | Verse: 87).

Mujahid said, "The meaning is this is the help of Allah to those who suffer from danger, difficulty, and narrowness with many prayers.

"Make it patient and pray as your helper. And indeed this is indeed hard, except for those who are devout ". (QS: Al-Baqarah | Verse: 45).

And if the Prophet was troubled, he immediately prayed. Prayer has a big impact on the life of the world and the hereafter (al-Bidayah wa an-Nihayah Juz: 2 p. 105).

For many years, Moses and his followers were patient and entertained themselves with faith in God and trust. They always improve relations with God. ask him for help with their prayers. On the other hand, Pharaoh and his followers were increasingly opposed and hostile to the truth.

Prophet Moses always prayed to Allah ﷻ,

Moses said: "Our Lord, verily Thou hast given Pharaoh and the princes of his people adornment and wealth in the life of the world, O our Lord - as a result they have misled (men) from the way of you. O our Lord, destroy their property, and the key to their hearts is death, so they do not believe until they see a painful torment. " (QS: Jonah | Verse: 88).

Ibn Juraij said, "Pharaoh lived for 40 years after the Prophet Moses said this prayer." (Interpretation of the Qur'an al-Azhim by Imam Ibn Kastir). Look at the Prophet Moses, besides being patient with his own people, how patient he is to face Pharaoh's cruelty, preach to him, and pray to Allah. No wonder Allah ukkan placed him as an ulul azhmi.

Allah ﷻ says,

"Therefore keep both of you on a straight path, and do not ever follow the path of those who do not know." (QS: Jonah | Verse: 89).

Allah allowed Prophet Moses and his followers to leave Egypt to Sham.

Knowing Moses' departure, Pharaoh's anger escalated. He prepared his troops to scold Prophet Moses and his followers. This event is enshrined by Allah ﷻ in the Qur'an.

"And We revealed (commanded) to Moses:" Go at night with My servants (the Children of Israel), for truly you will be overtaken ". Then Pharaoh sent men who gathered (soldiers) to the cities. (Pharaoh said): "Indeed they (the Children of Israel) are really a small group, and indeed they make things that cause our anger, and in fact we are truly a group that is always on guard". So We removed Pharaoh and his people from the gardens and the springs, and (from) the treasury and the noble position, so we gave everything to the Children of Israel. So Pharaoh and his army could follow them at sunrise. "(QS: Ash-Syu'araa | Ayat: 52-60).

When Pharaoh and his army caught up with Prophet Moses and his followers, followers of the Prophet Moses said,

"Surely we really will be overtaken." (QS: Ash-Shu'araa | Verse: 61).

They say so because they see before them the road covered by the sea. They complained to Moses. Then he answered,

Moses replied: "Never be overtaken; in fact, my Lord is with me, and he will guide me in the future. " (QS: Ash-Syu'araa | Verse: 62).

Prophet Moses said strong sentences with clear meanings. Shows the depth of knowledge and belief in God's grace. The words of a leader who calm his people when facing problems. The situation at that time was really precarious. There are no roads that can be passed. No one can be asked for help. And Pharaoh is cruel who can't possibly forgive. While the time continued to make Pharaoh's distance closer. In such circumstances, the Prophet Moses remained calm and was sure God would help him. This attitude should we emulate as a Muslim who believes in Allah ﷻ. Come down the revelation to the Prophet Moses,

Then We revealed to Moses: "Beat the sea with your staff." So the sea split and every hemisphere was like a big mountain. (QS: Ash-Syu'araa | Verse: 63).

Seeing the sea split, Prophet Moses and his followers hastened across the divided road. After crossing it, and the last of his followers came out of the sea, then the initial line of Pharaoh's troops entered the sea. Moses wanted to immediately hit the sea so I could return to his original state. So that Pharaoh and his army could not pass. But Allah ﷻ ordered,

"And let the sea remain divided. Indeed, they are soldiers who will be drowned. "(QS: Ad-dukhaan | Verse: 24).

Seeing the sign of the greatness of God and the miracle of Moses with the splitting of the sea, Pharaoh realized that it was God's power Allah. Not magic, Moses. But he brought to death his pride, under such circumstances he still said, "Look! How the sea recedes, submits to me. I will catch two of my servants (Moses and Aaron) who have rebelled against me. "

Pharaoh and his army rushed in, across the hemisphere that would destroy them. when they all entered the sea, Allah ﷻ ordered Moses to hit the sea with his staff. Moses also carried out the order of his Rabb. The split sea returned to normal. Allah ﷻ says,

"And We saved Moses and those who were with him all. And We drown the other groups. Verily in this is indeed a great sign (miracle) and but most of them are not believers. "(QS: Ash-Shu'araa | Verse: 65-67).

None of the believers drowned. And none of Pharaoh and his followers could survive.

After being completely conscious and sure to sink the Pharaoh said:

"And We enabled the Children of Israel to cross the sea, then they were followed by Pharaoh and his army, because they wanted to persecute and oppress (them); so that if the Pharaoh had almost drowned he said: "I believe that there is no God but God who is believed by the Children of Israel, and I am among those who surrender (to God)". "(QS: Jonah | Verse: 90) .

God denounces and teaches us all. When life in the throat and destruction is truly visible, will someone realize?

"Is it now (you just believe), even though you have been rebellious for a long time, and you are among those who do damage." (QS: Jonah | Verse: 91).

God has set the law. And destroy those who do wrong.

"So on this day We save your body so that you can be a lesson for those who come after you and in fact most of the people are unaware of the signs of Our power." (QS: Jonah | Verse: 92).

Pass the incident. But the lessons have never disappeared throughout the ages.

From Ibn Abbas radhiallahu ‘anhuma, Rasulullah ﷺ came to Medina. He found the Jews fasting on the day of Ashura (10 Muharam). Then he asked them,

"What day are you in charge of today?" The Jews replied, "This is a very noble day. This is the day God saved Moses and his people. At that time Pharaoh and his people were drowned. Moses fasted today in order to be grateful, so we followed him fasting today ".

The Messenger of Allah berkata then said, "We should have more right and priority to follow Moses than you." Then after that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered the Muslims to fast. ”(Narrated by Muslim no. 1130).
